Ruslan Lutsyk was born in historical Lviv, one of the main cultural centers of the Ukraine.
His devotion to music began at an early age. As a young child, he sang in a choir and took cello and piano lessons.
Shortly thereafter, began his life-long love affair with the bass.
Ruslan’s formal study of music commenced at the S.Kruchelnytzka Specialized Music Boarding School in Lviv. Attending the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Academy of Music, he graduated cum laude in 1998.
His postgraduate studies were completed with honors at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich under the tutelage of the professor Klaus Trumpf.
Following graduation, Ruslan taught graduate students as Professor Trumpf’s teaching assistant.
An active teacher, performer and competitor, he began working with the Philharmonia Zurich (former The Zurich Opera Orchestra) in 2002 and was engaged as Assistant Principal Double-Bass in 2004.
2008 Ruslan was appointed as a Professor of Double-Bass at the Bern University of Arts.
As a soloist, Mr.Lutsyk has concertized with orchestras in Germany, the Ukraine and Switzerland.
He is grateful to have shared the stage with many luminaries of the musical world, such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Zubin Mehta, Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, Teodor Currentzis, Christoph von Dohnányi, John Eliot Gardiner, Nello Santi, Daniele Gatti, Franz Welser-Möst, Cecilia Bartoli, Leo Nucci et al.
Ruslan regularly giving masterclasses in Switzerland, Poland, Slovakia and the USA.
In 2013, he founded the “Golden Bass International Double-Bass Competition,” the first International Bass competition ever held in Ukraine. This contest has received significant international attention.
